Rose oil is extracted from the fresh flowers, picked before 8 am in the morning, by steam distillation and the yield is 0,02-0,05%. The aroma can be damaged if the heat is too high at distillation. Damask Rose has a deep, rosy, fresh aroma, the color ranges from clear to a pale yellow or greenish tint and the viscosity is watery to crystalline, when warm or cold respectively. These sweet-smelling, tender pink flowers bloom from late May to late June, just once a year.

An endemic plant in Iran, Ferula gummosa (Ferula galbaniflua Boiss.) is the only true source of “soft Galbanum.” This plant of the slopes of the mountain ranges of Iran reproduces only by seed. During germination, it develops a deep, filiform root and a stem with two small leaves, which dry in May.

Traditional gum gathering is done with a locally made tool. The resin is extracted from the bark of the tree by making tiny incisions near the base of the plant. The resin droplets are distilled into essential oil, which is light yellow in color. Levant galbanum is a suitable species for extracting oil as it delivers considerably resin compared to other species that are quite hard. Galbanum oil has a powerful rich green, complex, fresh, spicy, woody and earthy fragrance. It is a very important scent for certain psychosomatic problems such as panic attacks caused by stress.
